As a lawyer, how will the lenders assess my income?

If you are employed we will ask for the latest 3 payslips. If you receive additional income such as bonus, we may ask for the last 2 years P60s, plus the payslips showing the bonus payments.
If you are self-employed we will ask for your latest two years tax calculations and tax year overviews.
These can easily be produced by speaking to your accountant, or downloading them from the HMRC portal.
If you have a limited company, then we will also ask for your last two years signed accounts. We can use a variety of salary and dividends, salary and share of net profits, and salary and retained profits.

How much can I borrow as a lawyer?

While a full a full affordability calculation will need to be completed to give you a true figure, as a rule of thumb you can expect to borrow 4.5 to 5 times your income and some lenders will stretch to 6 times your income if you fit their criteria.

Do mortgage applications for Lawyers take longer than a standard mortgage application?

The lenders service will differ from one Bank to another. The fact that you are a Lawyer shouldn’t delay your mortgage application.
